Small Ligid Dive Site in Davao - Philippines
There are two small islands off the northeast coast of Samal Island the smaller one is called Small Ligid Island. There we find the precious Small Ligid dive site.
The site is within the area of Buenavista, a resort in the island, and thus the dive site is also known as the Buenavista dive site. Many divers find Small Ligid dive site ideal. The reef beneath is rich and flourishing with rainbow colored fish like parrot fish and coral trout. It is a feast for the eyes of enthusiastic divers.
Another portion of Small Ligid dive site to its southeastis a huge rock formation patched with sandy portions and embellished with an amazing collection of attached shells, nidu branches, hard and soft corals, and wriggly sea snakes. When we hit a 25-meter depth rainbow runners and a swarm of jacks greet us.
There are also small interesting crevices on the west side of Small Ligid dive site located in shallow waters. Here, with luck, we may chance upon a white-tip shark that periodically ventures there or a green turtle that roams the gentle waters. Novice divers are welcome here, of course with their instructors, to view the great bed of corals swarming with reef fish and trout.
Experience diving while sandwiched between narrow cave wallswith rocks immediately over and under us. It could be a different experience as opposed to a free descent. With free descents in these waters, there may be occasional strong currents that would pull us down, along with air bubbles. So be sure to dive with instructors.
Small Ligid dive site shares the waters with Ligid Pinnacles, another marvelous dive site with towering coral forms. From the shores of Balet town in Babak district on Samal Island we may cross directly to Small Ligid by boat taking some 20 to 30 minutes. The shores of Big Ligid Island sparkle with white sand.
To get to Small Ligid dive site from Davao City, we take a boat ride at the Sta. Ana Wharf, which is about 20 to 30 minutes. We land at Kaputian Wharf on the west side of Samal and cross to Balet.
