Dapia Dive Site - Davao

The Dapia Dive Site is actually one of the reefs that can be found in the Davao Gulf. Actually, it is a reef that is located at the Talikud Island, an island that can be found off the south west coast of the Samal Islands. Samal and Talikud Islands are part of Davao del Norte.

Getting to Dapia Dive Site

To get to Dapia Reefs, you would have to go to the Sta. Cruz port which is found at the Talikud Island. The Sta. Cruz port actually links the island to the nearby Kaputian Port, another port locate across the Sta. Cruz Port. This also links the island to Sta. Ana Wharf which is located in Davao City. So, if you are from Manila or Cebu, you need to fly to Davao City, go to the Sta. Ana Wharf and from there travel by boat to the Sta. Cruz Port to get to the Dapia Dive Site. Actually, there are other dive sites that are located in the Talikud Island and all these sites share the Sta. Cruz port as a drop-off entry point. Some of these dive sites include the Talisay Wall, Isla Reta and the Mansud Wall.

Exploring the Dapia Dive Site

The travel to the Dapia dive site from the Sta. Cruz port takes about 45 minutes, a relatively short distance compared to some dive sites in the Davao gulf that would require at least two hours of travel. This particular dive site offers the opportunity to see marine life at its glory. The waters are so clear that you wouldn’t have difficulty finding your way into the depths. There are regular sightings of tuna, jacks and barracudas.

This dive site is relatively deeper than some. Divers will encounter sloping terrains with ridges. The maximum depth of the Dapia dive site is about 80 feet or approximately 24 meters but the currents are relatively moderate. Although the waters are clear the whole year through, it is still advisable to visit the Dapia Reefs during the months of November to May.

Dapia Dive Site -- What You Will See

There are actually many things that you will see in Dapia Reefs. The highlights of the Dapia dive site include cabbage corals, ox-eye scud, barrel sponges, hawksbill turtles and fusiliers, aside from those already mentioned above. You’d also find other wonderful underwater specimens. You would find a wide variety of reef fishes and tropical fishes as well as occasional moray eels, tube worms, sea stars, gorgonians and large sponges.

Many of the diving sites in Talikud Islands are quite similar to the Dapia dive site. They are all unexplored and they are waiting to be discovered, explored and enjoyed.
